This presentation will provide an overview of how generational, historical, systemic, and individual racial discrimination impacts BIPOC populations and results in Race Based Traumatic Stress (RBTS) for affected individuals and communities. Conference participants will learn best practice clinical recommendations for assessment, conceptualization, and treatment.

Pivoting to Anti-Oppressive Supervision Practices

In this discussion, we will explore anti-oppressive supervision practices that address power dynamics. Rooted in an anti-blackness framework, this discussion will explore restructuring hierarchies in supervisory practices, exploring white supremacy culture, and how it manifests in supervision, investigating internalized oppression, and conclude with best practices for supervisors and supervisees in enacting their liberation.

Ethnic and racial diversification in the U.S. is increasing every day, with more than 30-million language-minority individuals, and while language is a primary tool for psychotherapy and psychiatric diagnosis, not many researchers have focused on issues that bilingual/multilingual individuals face in relation to mental health and in a therapeutic setting.

When couples are in conflict, children suffer. Clinicians working with families are tasked with stabilizing systems to enable caregivers to attend to children’s trauma. This presentation will identify, explore, and illustrate system's-based interventions when working with conflictual couples who have a child stuck in the middle.
