The Therapeutic Value of Work: Vocation as a Positive Prevention and Treatment in Recovery

Presented by Andrea Nerlich, PhD, CRC, CVE & Stephanie M Colace, MSEd, LMHC, CRC
Work provides self-sufficiency, connectedness to others, and sense of purpose; lack of employment jeopardizes mental health and can result in poverty and dependency. This session overviews the continuum from mental health services to rehabilitation counseling, a tertiary level of service within integrated behavioral health resulting in sustainable employment. Evidenced-based practices in vocational counseling and supported employment will be presented.

Understanding Satanism: Cultural Competence and the Role of the Counselor

Satanism is a largely misunderstood religion that has faced significant hurdles due to the spread of misinformation, stereotyping, and false media portrayals. This presentation seeks to help counselors understand Satanism as a religion, dispel myths, and provide ways in which to interact with Satanic clients in a culturally competent manner.

When Grieving Clients of Indo-Guyanese Heritage Seek Counseling: Recommendations for Counselors

The mourning process varies from culture to culture. When working with Indo- Guyanese clients, how comfortable are counselors when learning about the unique burial process associated with this culture`s death customs? Also, how prepared are counselors to work with this population, who engage in mourning practices that are customary to this culture? These questions and more will be explored in this presentation.

A presentation showing fourteen ways conflict in close relationships can be regulated so that partners can benefit from diversity in viewpoint and method.
